DigitalRadioTracker Vital Music Resource
Michael Matthews is the founder and President of DigitalRadioTracker, Inc.
Matthews, a New York native enjoys traveling and music networking engagements-concerts. He’s also an affiliate with the Recording Academy (Grammy’s).
DigitalRadioTracker was created in 2011. Matthews also owns a music marketing company called, Dominion Global Inc. where songs are promoted to radio.
“It was through marketing records, the idea of DRT was born. As technology was evolving and we were leaving the era of CDs and entering the era of mp3 downloads and streaming, I realized there was a major void in the industry. A lot of music was now being consumed via the internet. I realized the way new music was being discovered was no longer the traditional way – FM radio. We were now living in a global industry.
Things like social media and internet radio were changing the landscape of the music industry as we knew it. I quickly realized consumers were listening more and more to music via devices like their cell phones, smart TVs, smart speakers, and even smart refrigerators! There was no one in the industry monitoring music that was being streamed across these devices.
Royalties were not being represented and the music was moving faster than it could be tracked! I wanted to better serve my clients. I wanted to be able to show them that the marketing work we were doing was effective and their music was reaching the globe not just traditional FM radio, therefore I began working with some developers to create new technology, a new way to tracking music around the globe – DigitalRadioTracker,” he said.
Digital Radio Tracker is quite significant. New and established artists are granted insight into how often their songs are played on the radio. Knowing where the songs are being played helps artists collect royalties, set up interviews, book shows, and gain a stronger fanbase.
This is vital to their individual careers. DigitalRadioTracker monitors over 5,000 radio stations throughout the US and around the world.
Artists are able to know week to week spin patterns, estimated audience gauge about their music. DRT reports give artist analytics to assist with understanding where the songs are being played and how many times a day it occurs. DigitalRadioTracker has helped artists become very successful.
“After being in the music industry for more than 25 years our team has received more than 200 RIAA certified Gold and Platinum plaques along with more than 125 number one records on the Billboard Charts. We have assisted and been a part of numerous major record deals for clients with companies such as Sony, Universal, Atlantic, BMG, Warner Brothers, Def Jam,” he said.
Matthews said that he’s worked with many incredible artists but has been intrigued in helping new artists develop.
“Watching their careers grow and seeing them achieve status in the industry most could only dream of. It’s a very rewarding experience knowing that even one thing you did or one thing you said helped make a difference in their career,” he said.
Matthews hosted a 24-month challenge in an effort to meet major artists by taking photos and videos with them as he promoted DRT. He successfully completed the challenge and met Oprah, Michelle Obama, Bill, and Hillary Clinton. He also met J-Lo, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Metallica Ariana Grande, and many more. Matthews said meeting artist Billie Eilish was one of the coolest experiences. “She is interesting, I really didn’t even know anything about her or her music before spending some time with her. Her personality and her attentiveness to what we are doing at DigitalRadioTracker just drew me in. You can say I’m a fan for life now,” he said.
Matthews favorite place to visit is Las Vegas. He enjoys eating at Pappa Brothers Steakhouse & Ruth Chris. An interesting fact about him is that he is also a best-selling author of Position To Receive. It is considered a business motivation, Christian inspirational book. He also attends
Abundant Life Cathedral in Houston, Texas.
It’s very simple for an artist, label, or music industry professional to sign up for a FREE account on DRT’s website.
Artists should sign up with their email and select a password. They’ll be able to log in and navigate DRT’s user-friendly platform, where they’ll be able to do a free search DRT to check and see if DRT staff have any airplay on their song.
“After performing a search and they see their song appear in our system, that will indicate they have current airplay on their song. They can then choose to load their account up with report credits and generate a DRT Report on the song to see what stations are playing the song and how many spins they are receiving. This information can be monetized in the form of booking shows, set up interviews, sell merchandise, enhance their music marketing strategies, or collect royalties,” Matthews said.
DigitalRadioTracker has plans of growing the brand in the months and years to come.
“As we revolutionize the way music is monitored and tracked as well as continue to give a voice to the unheard whether it’s a new and developing artist or a small broadcaster that’s breaking new music,” Matthews said.
